Sir Gordon Wu

Sir Gordon Wu (KCMG, FICE) is the founder and Chairman of Hopewell Holdings Limited, serving as Managing Director (1972–2001) and Chairman since 1996. Under his leadership, Hopewell spun off two listed entities: Consolidated Electric Power Asia Limited (1993) and Hopewell Highway Infrastructure Limited (2003). A Princeton civil engineering graduate (1958), Sir Gordon is a pioneer in infrastructure and real estate across Hong Kong, Mainland China, Southeast Asia, and overseas. In Hong Kong, he introduced Slipform construction to build over 34,000 apartments, including 13,000 public housing units. In the Greater Bay Area, he spearheaded Guangzhou’s first 5-star hotel, the 123 km Guangzhou–Shenzhen Superhighway, and the Shajiao B and C power stations—with Shajiao B winning the British Construction Industry Award and setting a world speed record (completed in 22 months). Expanding into Southeast Asia, his ventures generated total power capacity exceeding Hong Kong’s entire grid.

Active in public service, Sir Gordon served 30 years on the CPPCC National Committee (1983–2013; Vice Chairman of the Liaison Committee, 2003–2013), as a UN Association of China Council Member, China Development Bank Advisor, and Vice President of REDA Hong Kong.

A Fellow of multiple professional bodies, he holds ten honorary doctorates alongside top honors, including Hong Kong’s Gold Bauhinia Star, a British Knighthood (KCMG), and decorations from Belgium and Croatia.
