Professor Anna CY Chan is the Director of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) and an internationally recognized visionary leader with 35 years of distinguished service advancing performing arts education. Combining artistic excellence, strategic leadership, and a global professional network, she has made transformative contributions across academia, arts administration, performance, production, and international collaboration. She currently serves on the Performing Arts Committee of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA), is the Director of the Tai Kwun Board and Chair of its Culture and Arts Programme Committee, and serves as the President of the World Dance Alliance, and the Council Member of the China Dancers Association.
As the Director of the HKAPA, Professor Chan has strengthened institutional governance, academic quality assurance, and strategic planning, reinforcing the Academy’s position as a leading performing arts institution in Asia. She has advanced interdisciplinary learning, industry engagement, digital innovation, and international partnerships, while championing sustainability initiatives aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, including the development of environmentally responsible performing arts facilities.
A distinguished scholar-practitioner, Professor Chan holds professorial and visiting appointments at leading institutions in Hong Kong and Mainland China. Her honors include major awards recognizing her contributions to dance and arts leadership.
