Mr. Scott Vaughan

Scott Vaughan is a Senior Fellow with the International Institute of Sustainable Development (IISD), a Canadian-based award-winning sustainability think tank. He is also the International Chief Advisor of the China Council for International Cooperation for Environment and Development (CCICED). In recent years, CCICED has advanced policies in the low-carbon transition, ecosystem stewardship, tackling pollution, and wider basin approaches to climate resilience, including lessons from the Yangtze, Rhine, Danube, and other freshwater basins. Previously, Scott was the President and CEO of IISD, and the first chair of the IISD Experimental Lakes Area, the world’s largest whole ecosystem science research facility. An important focus of his time as Director of the Sustainable Development Department of the Organization of American States—an international organization of the 34 countries of South, Central, and North America and the Caribbean—involved supporting the sustainable management of vital transboundary freshwater bodies, including the secretariat of the eight countries that share the Amazon Basin.

Scott is also a Senior Fellow at the University of Ottawa, and holds postgraduate degrees from the London School of Economics, the University of Edinburgh, and Dalhousie University, as well as an honours undergraduate degree from Mount Allison University.
