Professor Chetwyn Chan is the Vice President (Research and Development) at The Education University of Hong Kong and Peter T. C. Lee Chair Professor of Psychology. He is an Elected Fellow of the American Psychological Association and a Fellow of the Hong Kong Psychological Society. His research is to study how cognitive functions support sensory and cross-modal learning. He specializes in neurodegeneration due to normal aging and pathologies such as stroke and dementia. He leads two multidisciplinary research clusters at the University in longevity and life and career development. Over the years, he has published over 200 full research papers and secured about HK$50 million in research, development, and consultancy grants. In 2018, Professor Chan and his research team won the First Prize in Science and Technology from the Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine. In 2019, his research team won the Second Class State Scientific and Technology Progress Award from the State Council of the People’s Republic of China.
At the University, Professor Chan has recently led the implementation of the sustainable goals development initiatives. He is the Chairperson of the Executive Committee of The Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation, a Member of the Employees Retraining Board, Convenor of the Quality Assurance and Review Committee of the Employees Retraining Board, and a Member of the Committee on Professional Development of Teachers and Principals of the Education Bureau. In 2023, he received the Chief Executive's Commendation for Community Service from the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, PRC.
